About Joan

Joan Painter, Franchise Ventures®, LLC

Joan is a seasoned veteran of the Franchising Industry with a long history of experiences in food service, restaurant and hotel management, and franchising. Her skills are well known and well respected within the tightly knit franchising community. Her long career with Ben & Jerry’s included managing and operating company-owned units where she assessed and evaluated franchise services prior to implementation within the system. Throughout her tenure, Joan’s operational expertise enhanced all phases of development and legal management of the franchise system.

Joan has been a member of the IFA for over 20 years, taking every opportunity to learn about the ever-changing legal landscape of a rapidly growing franchise industry. She has earned and maintained her certification as a CFE (Certified Franchise Executive) which includes a condensed MBA in Franchise Management. She is a current and past member of the Board of Governors ICFE, assisting in the development and review of CFE educational programs and curriculum. She has also been involved in other IFA committees including the Legal Task Force, Membership Committee, and Women in Franchising.

As a select member of the ABA Forum on Franchising, Joan has participated in more than 15 annual meetings. Joan was one of the founders of the Franchise Administrators Network and continues to Chair this group of paralegals and franchise administrators providing networking opportunities, resources and mentoring. As Chair, Joan has hosted an annual open house featuring guest speakers, state franchise examiners and industry experts. Joan is a member of the Women’s Caucus and is an active participant and leader within the ABA.

Joan’s participation in numerous franchising events includes International Franchise Expos, National Restaurant Association Conventions, and educational sessions at International Institute for Franchise Education (IIFE) in the H.
